PAMHO

Im finally done with the last exams of my course and im waiting to go
to mayapur now for Narasingha Chaturdashi... I would really appreciate
all the info i can get from all of you who have been to and heard about Sridham
Mayapur. I would even appreciate online links to pages about mayapur dham and
various lila places to be visited there.

Also, Manu Prabhu, since you have been there most recently, u would know
about the shopping there. Pls tell me what all can be bought there. Do they
have deity mukuts and other paraphernalia? What about the deity dress making
department in our temple... have u been there?
'
Pls bless me so that i have a nice yatra.. ive got "Appreciating Navadwip dham" by Mahanidhi Maharaj and will be reading that now.

I appreciate your responses..

your servant

    Haribol,
I personally have never been but i found this gallery of a devotee's trip in 2005 it has some nice pics of the deity sewing room and notable temples in the dham, unfortunately there are no captions so its difficult to tell which temple they're depicting. www.flickr.com/photos/jah...4242871246/
As far as shoping a devote told me the selection could be compared to the shop at the local temple, ie stuff is available but the selection and quality isn't the best, but he went a few years ago so things may have changed.
Hope your yatra goes well, may Lord Narasingha bless you with a safe journey.

jai prabhu, im sure u will have a wonderful trip, and u have my blessings for whatever they are worth :)

as an avid spiritual shopper, i would tell u that mayapur isnt vrndavana, by any stretch of the imagination, which is too bad cuz i soo much prefer it there. you can find mukuts and peacock feathers and fans, but its not the same, unless of course you have things made on order, then u can get beautiful bengali style mukuts (which i personally adore)

you can buy some ornaments and jewels for the deities which is quite nice and its available in that whole street section of stalls inside the compound. i purchased most of my peacock feather ornaments there. i have some very interesting ones that i had never seen before.

you can have the best selection of conch shells there though....

but walk towards the ferry and go and see the deity sculptors and see the gorgeous forms of mahaprabhu and nityananda, and do the same in mayapur, buy a set :) then show me what they look like :)

and i didnt really go inside and see ramadevi and the sewing room, it was jampacked with matas who were getting all kinds of outfits ready....

Manu, what do you mean by 'bengali style mukuts', are they kinda like this, from the pics i've seen most of the temples have the common gold jari ones, so this is the only pic i could find that looked distinctive:

no not like that. they are more like mango shaped, very long or tall paisleys. they can have jari or not, beads, and embroidery. ill post some pics of what i mean, actually there should be some bengali mukuts in some of the pics i uploaded in this tribe :) u can search for ones i posted around the 3rd week of january and ull see what i mean.

        hope that helps.

    Hare Krishna Prabhu.
PAMHO.AGtSP,All glories to Sri Mayapur Dhama,
Mayapur is out of thisworld,it seems as if time has just stood still in Mayapur. IMHO, books are very good guides but if you are there for a short while and want to save time, then its better to go on Parikrama with devotee guides..They are very knowledgeable and can be contacted at the administrative office there. They will fill you on the pastimes and all the nectarean happenings there. We had the good fortune to have darshan of Gopiswar Mahadev, visit the sewing department and the see the magnificent collection of Radha -Madhava's and the Pancatattva's dresses and they are simply amazing..the night dresses are so wonderful themselves. Just being there and chanting in association with the devotees is an experience to cherish. You will undoubtedly have a good yatra Prabhu,Good luck.
