Hari Bol Prabhujis,
Please accept my humble obeisances, All Glories to Srila Prabhupada!
I'm currently designing a singhasana for my ista devatas (Sri Sri Radha Puskareksana), and would like some input from tribe members:
-Do your ista devatas have a specially made singhasana?
-What would you consider the best material?
-The style of design?
-Any important features it should have?
-Can you reccommend anyone who could make it from my design?
Also, for those of you who live in or near temples, would it be possible to post some photos of the temple singhasanas (Nityananda-Rama Prabhu in particular this would be most appreciated!)
Hopefully, in the not too distant future, ill be posting my designs here for you all to critique!
Thanks in advance,
Your servant,
Krish.

Re: designing a singhasana
Fri, December 29, 2006 - 12:49 PMHaribol Krish Prabhu!
Quite weird actually, I wanted exactly the same thing! But I was waiting until i went to india first and saw what they have to offer. I am sure there would be some silversmiths who would be willing to make a singhasan, although I would prefer gold instead..maybe it could be gold plated? I was hoping for something metal though...
I will post some pics of a few singhasanas I have found over the net.

Re: designing a singhasana
Sat, December 30, 2006 - 12:55 PMMetal is nice, and very opulent. I feel wood could be opulent, while cozy too. I found this design online, on eBay (check the picture gallery on arcana). It's actually doll's furniture and retails at about $99. But it would be definitely cheaper than a metal asana (gold or silver!)...
If you go to India, any shop that seells carved wood furniture could make this for you, if you gave them a picture. You could even choose the type of wood you want. Alternatively, it's a nice design even for a metal asana, as it's spacious, and give you plenty of room for a cushion/matress if the deities need to sleep :-D
Hope this helps. Hare Krsna!

Re: designing a singhasana
Sat, December 30, 2006 - 12:57 PMOh one more thing...The little Radha Krsna deities in the Boston temple have a nice asana. I'll post a pic. The design is very spacious, and I think it's repoussed/chased silver sheets on wood...but not sure...

i designed the singhasana my deities live in and although it wsa a huge hassle im very glad i did it. u can see it on my profile pics and ill try and post some here. i think it is a very personal way to serve ur thakurs and create a space for their pastimes. i chose something that was inspired from 16th century bengal and the altars found during this time. anyway, post pics of ur designs im very curious and i love to see what devotees do to make their lords comfortable.....
