At Rajbhog arti camphor is usually offered before the normal ghee lamps, anthough i've noticed at the Toronto temple that just a normal ghee lamp with a large wick is used. The New York temple uses a normal gee lamp with a piece of camphor, i'm guessing this is so the camphor doesn't burn too quickly. What standaerd do most temples follow? I'm guessing they don't use real camphor at the toronto temple because the smoke tends to turn everything black and the altar is white, or maybee they're using camphor oil that just looks like a normal ghee lamp. Also is there a specific mantra for offering camphor?

Re: offering camphor/kurpoor
Sat, May 12, 2007 - 8:43 PMmost temples just use the piece of karpur. but what u have seen is also acceptable a ghee wick that probably has camphor on it. this is also done. ghee alsp produces the black smoke (less but it still does) so i dont think its cuz the altar is white in toronto, cuz ours in montreal is also all white and yes it does get terribly dirty, ughhhh.
and to my knowledge there is no separate mantra for camphor. just esa dipa ....then the mula mantra to whom u are offering to.
:)
