I know that in Scriptual reference Radharanis eyes are blue,
so does anyone know why so often in the temple Radharani's eyes are green ?

Here is the description of Krishna's lotus eyes by Lilasuka (Srila Bilvamangala Thakur) in his famous Krsna-Karnamritam:

lilayitabhyam rasa-sitalabhyam
nilarunabhyam nayanambujabhyam
alokayedadbhuta-vibhramabhyam
kale kada karunikah kisorah (verse 45)

When will the merciful adolescent Krishna look at me with His two eyes - sportive, cool with succulence, blue at the pupils and reddish at the corners, moving with a strange flutter?

nila - blue + arunabhyam - reddish; nayana -eyes + ambujabhyam-lotuses.

Although sometimes we can see the deity of Krishna with eyes painted in black or red (well, at my place in New Dwarka LA we have Krishna-Dwarkadhish whose skin is white!), Krishna's original eyes are often described by the acharyas as having sapphire glow, that is blue.

Hare Krishna,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Regarding Sri Radha's eye color in RADHA KRIPA KATAKSA by Srila Rupa Goswami :

"7. mrnala bala vallari taranga ranga dorlate latagra lasya lola nila locanavalokane lalal lulan milan manojna mugdha mohanasraye kada karisyasiha mam krpa kataksa bhajanam

mrnala - lotus stems; bala - young; vallari - creepers; taranga-ranga - waving and dancing; doh - arms; late - vines; lata - vine; agra - top; lasya - dance; lola - swaying; nila - blue; locana - eyes; avalokan - glance; lalat - playing; lulat - moving about; milat - making rendezvous; manojna - charming; mugdha -fascinated; mohan - the arch-enchanter; asraye - refuge; kada - when; karisyasi - will You make?; iha - here; mam - me; krpa - mercy; kataksa - sidelong glance; bhajanam - object.

TRANSLATION Her slender arms, creeper-slim, rhythmically wave and flow like lotus fibres in a current of water. Like the dancing top of the swaying vine, Her blue lotus eyes flash with enthralling glances. Her playful and alluring movements entice lovely meetings and fascinate Mohan Himself to take refuge in Her charms. When will She shower upon me Her sidelong glance of over-flowing grace?

Krishna's eyes: "His eyes resemble the inside of a lotus flower," SB 3.28.13

Thank you.

some of the gopis had green skin, blue, all different colors are there. This can be read in those two books which describe the different associates of Lord Caitanya and Lord Krishna. The Caitanya book is called Gaura ganodesha dipika and I forget the name of the Krishna book. I think that it also ends in ganodeshika dipika

Being Indian, I was very sceptical about Krsna's and Radharani's eyes being blue... and then I got the Hari Bhakti Kalpa Latika - a scripture whose author is not known, but Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur discovered this work, and said that it was written by a devotee of Krsna. He had the work translated and published...

Back to the point, when I was reading this book, I came across a verse that stated that all the gopis had blue eyes. That put my scepticism to rest. (Red, black and white are still the traditional colors for deities, and the Goswamis' deities were all painted this way)...

Hope this helps. If you'd like, I can give you the exact verse (I have to find the book first!).

no certain scriptural reference, but Deena Bandhu Prabhu (from Vrindavan) has said in many lectures that Radharani's eyes are grey/blue colour - not as he calls it 'german blue' ie. bright blue, I'm pretty sure Raghunath Das Goswami notes it in Sri Dana Keli Cintamani - if I find out, will let you know.

Hare Krishna everyone!
PAMHO! AGTSP!
I was wondering if there is any scriptural reference to the color of eyes of Krishna, Radharani, Gauranga and nityananda...
I am just painting my deities and have painted Gauranga's eyes blue. I have seen quite a few home deities of Gaura Nitai where Gauranga's eyes were painted blue. I was just wondering if there is any scriptural reference to that.....

Thank You,
