Two questions

Haribol!
Janmashtami is fast approaching and since I'm quite busy i thought I'd ask these questions while I have some time to all you excellent vaishnavs here! :o)
Anyway, since this is my second Janmashtami with my deities I was thinking about putting the sacred thread on Krsna, but I'm not sure how, what the prodecures are, or even if I myself can do such a thing. Anyone got any suggestions here, or have any of you put a sacred thread on your deities?
Never have done it in the past since it never really came to mind, and I thought it was something I personally couldn't do, but since it's their second year I would like to offer one, if its within the rules hehe :o)
Next is...fruit garlands!
With hard nuts like cashews and almonds I'm wondering how they make these garlands in the temple, they look way to hard to just stick a needle into, and even then, some have the tendecny to break apart (the nuts) into little peices...are the nuts soaked before they're threaded, or is there some other easier way prabhus? enlighten me!
Haribol! :o)

boil the nuts, it softens them.
If you're at the Manor on Sunday, ask Mother Premanjali (punjabi lady, she has a limp), she'll be making garlands in Prabhupada's bathroom after class. Tell her I sent you, she may engage you in service, either making garlands for the deities or even fruit garlands for janmastami which they should have started by now.

      Haribol,
thanks so much for that very infomative article, just read it; although it is more on about sacred thread for us, rather then deities...anyway, will most likey leave it for now, any pujaris have any info on the topic @ hand? I should have really asked one of the pujaris @ the manor.. hmm..

The article is about human sacred threads, as it descrbes a 3 stranded version. I believe PP says for Krishna it should be 9 strands of yellow or white silk or cotton. The standard for Shaligrams is that a single stranded one made of pure gold wire is offered or a mudra substitute as i do until i get one made in india.

          Haribol,
Actually though the article is about sacred threads in general, the following 2 lines also say that we can make threads in the same way and offer the deities..
Before wearing the thread, you may offer it to Lord Caitanya or Lord Krsna in His Deity form by placing it at the Deity's feet. Of course, upavitas can be made for the Deities in the same manner, to the appropriate length.
