Thu, September 28, 2006 - 10:28 PMJaya Manu Prabhu.
Its refreshing to write to a vaisnava here as I've just recently been toasted for uttering the smallest 'eek' of a suggestion of gaudiya philosophy over in the Siva forum. real hospitable tribe they have there. i wonder what Lord Siva thinks?
really Vrindavana is, in my opinion, a better place for deity paraphenalia. you can get the neem Gaura-Nitai deities in Mayapur but you may have to look around a bit and mabye over on the Navadwipa side too. they still have deity shops around the campus but nothing like in Loi Bazaar.
of course now its all under water for a week or so.

Re: deity parahernalia in mayapur?
Fri, September 29, 2006 - 11:31 AMits too bad about the flooding and the deaths of the devotees. i have no doubt that lord krsna will fulfill their eternal desires.
and jaya back ekendra prabhu!
i kno what u mean about the shiva tribe- real hospitable. i was just gonna post something b4 reading arcana tribe- but i decided to resign myself to silence. its not worth it. manish has been more than impolite in his tribe and it shows his low class to speak so harshly to new ppl. i digress. it really is a witch hunt. what is so funny is that he criticizes us for mistranslations etc, but claims and quotes many other gurus whose translation are "absolute" he is most guilty of what he accuses. anywayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
thanx for the info that the deity shops are still there (altho under water :( ) u say there are shops on the navadwipa side? i already have my beautiful neem gaura nitai but im looking for someone else , who is just as demanding as me when it comes to deities lol.
ya loi bazaar rocks its just that for the neem i think mayapur is more likely to have dont u?
im so excited to buy wonderful things for thakur ji's!!!!
and will do for the murti of srila prabhupada if i find one (or two ;) lol. ill let u kno for sho. thanx for writing a respons to my question, i had all but given up on the prabhus here ;) lol.
kidding of course.

Re: deity parahernalia in mayapur?
Fri, September 29, 2006 - 5:23 PMpranams. all glories to Srila Prabhupada.
sad that those devotees won't be with us here any longer. but what a glorious way to leave in the mayapur-ganga lila! May i be so fortunate.
manu sadhu ....
yes. so I just take it that Krishna doesn't want me to contribute in that so called Siva tribe. Those people are there for whatever reason attracts them and they can entertain one another with whatever reasoning they like. You are right on about the dogma stuff. In reading through the posts on that tribe it usually oscillated between either total sentimentalism (let all hold hands together - we are all God nonsense) or someone pushing their own concocted dogma on others. But if one of us even suggests something there then its "DOGMATIC PROSTELITIZING - GET OUT!!!!!!" but then they do the same dogma pushing to eachother ???? and delete the posts by devotees that are full of reasoning and sound logic so as to distort our position. Such are the ways of the age of quarrel and hypocrisy . but anywaaaaaaaaaay .........
yes prabhu. I think Mayapur is the obvious place to get the neem deities. There are also carvers in Puri who are expert and I particularly like the Oriya artistic style. There is one place I know of there that is fair and honest to ISKCON devotees. I've purchased deities from them before and they were very devotional about the whole exchange. They even invited me to their home and eagerly fed me Jagannatha Prasadam from the temple and never tried to cheat me or heavy me to pay money for any services other than the ones that obviously cost money to them. He has a shop that faces the Simha-Dvara just on the other side of the Grand road (the big wide one) and the name is Jagannatha Patra and Sons. I wish I could post a picture of the Sad-Bhuja deity he carved for me but I left Him in our apartment in Mayapur because the quarantine laws are so strict coming into Australia and New Zealand that they confiscate things made of wood all the time at the airport. I didn't want to take the risk. (I'm just having a look around my hard drive to see if I have any shots ... and yes! we just bought a digital camera then and were snapping shots of anything and everything. I'll upload them now.)
done.
Now all of these deities were carved from the Siddha-bakul (tree that Haridas Thakura chanted beneath) when the big branch broke off after the cyclone a few years back. Thats why the wood looks as it does. The main point of posting these images is to discuss if you like the style of carving though. I like it a lot ...
deityworship.tribe.net/photos...97ef290 - Sri Narasimha
deityworship.tribe.net/photos...791bc71 - Chota Narasimha and Sri Sadbhuj (They ended up painting Sad-bhuj for us and now He is living in Mayapur. I would have prefered to just keep the rough wood look of the Siddha-bakul but I didn't get back in time to communicate this and didn't think they could paint them in such short time but they did - miscommunication)
deityworship.tribe.net/photos...2c7a9a2 - Here's the carver himself Sriman Jagannatha Patra Prabhu
deityworship.tribe.net/photos...e8b5a83 - and a pic of me just in case you are like me and prefer to have a face to match with who you are corresponding with. Those cows sure love Jagannatha Prasadam don't they?
So this is my personal opinion and recommendation. If you prefer the Mayapur style then there are some shops just inside the ISKCON boundary and some just on the other side of the wall. In Navadwipa there are some pooja shops around the Srimati Visnupriya temple and some on the main roads towards the market with the Siva and Kali temple inside.
Just to take advantage of the opportunity to show Sri Sri Nitai-Gauracandra who were found in Vrindavana and who are with us here in Australia at the moment:
deityworship.tribe.net/photos...439e511
Their Lordships are carved from soft stone and painted according to the descriptions in Caitanya Bhagavat which is why they are slightly different in colour.
so its nice to be able to serve you in this way. I hope that any information here helps you on your quest.
your servant, ekendra das

Re: deity parahernalia in mayapur?
Wed, January 17, 2007 - 1:01 PMmaybe they will have good stuff there. cuz i gotta admit, i just came back from mayapur and although it was AMAZING in every aspect, there is not much good deity paraphernalia. loi bazaar is soooooo much better. i spent a fortune like $1500 on stuff for my deities. ill post pics in their new outfits and ornaments. i had the best 2 outifts made. i just love them.
i really wanted to get my gaura nitai carved wooden shoes like the panca tattva, but i couldnt find them anywhere. i guess i could have special ordered them.... anyway maybe someone that is going for gaura purnima can keep an eye out if they see any nice carved wooden shoes for my deities :)
thanx

Re: deity parahernalia in mayapur?
Tue, January 23, 2007 - 6:04 PMHaribol prabhus,
I was wondering if anyone knows if one can get neemwood deities in Vrindavan?
I heard that they are available, but not widely, and...apparently, "you need to know people..." and unfortunately I don't! So I thought I'd ask those with more knowledge and experience than myself...

Re: deity parahernalia in mayapur?
Wed, January 24, 2007 - 5:41 AMu really cant get neem wood deities there. my friend bought 1 pair once 3 years ago when she was there with my wife. but the selection is EXTREMELY limited. even the ones she bought, she had to search and search for. so u may find some but in my opinion they arent carved in the same style as in west bengal.
if u see in the pics, i uploaded some shots of neem wood deities in their shop and i visited 4 specialty shops in mayapur and navadwipa who carve the neem wood deities. if u hadnt already noticed I AM A HUGE neem wood deity fan lol ;) mine are neem wood and i simply melt at the beautiful bengali style of neem wood gaura nitai s. i have the cards of 2 of these shops (i dont know y i took them- cuz i absolutely love my nitai gaurasundara- i guess i took them out of curiosity and for possibilty :) there are tons of neem wood deities in the shops that are on temple property, but imo those are not the best quality sculptures (no offense to god who is always beautiful) and im sure once dressed they would look fantastic, there were a few pairs that were better than the others. the temple boutique just outside the main temple in the chakra building had a really nice pair of tall ones with the double top-knot (which for me is a real pre-requisite) their faces were very asian looking, i would recommend those ones as among the nicest.
anyway, look at me rambling....
if ever u want their co-ordinates just pm me and let me know. -

Mon, January 29, 2007 - 1:33 AMamazingly - I'm off to Mayapur this saturday. someone offered to pay my airfare, food and accomodation so I took the offer. I have to work really hard the whole time I'm in Mayapur but still - its Mayapur!
So anyway. the purpose of writing this post is to get the blessings of the Vaisnava tribe. so please bless me that I'll have a devotionally saturated visit to the dham and not just focus on externals.

Mon, January 29, 2007 - 12:11 PMHaribol Manu prabhu,
Thanks for the info. If you could help me by doing a HUGE favor...is it possible for you to find out from your friend where in Vrindavan neem deities are available? It would help a devotee friend of mine, who is journeying to Vrindavan next year... at least this way she doesn't have to hunt too much, although you never know what the Lord has planned(!)...
Thanks again for your info & help...Hare Krsna!

Re: deity parahernalia in mayapur?
Mon, January 29, 2007 - 12:24 PMsata just told me that she actually bought them inside the iskcon krsna balaram mandir complex. when u 1st go in thru the gates at the entrance turn right and there is a gift shop therem thats where she got them. mind u i have just come back from there and didnt see any in that shop. but they could get more. my wife told me that 3 years ago they had 2 sets and her friend bought 1 pair of them. maybe i just didnt see them cuz i wasnt paying attention for them as i have my own gorgeous gaura nitai hehe ;)
u could also ask around the temple and im sure one of the devotees could help.... or have ur friend have some shipped from mayapur to vrndavana while she is there? -

Tue, January 30, 2007 - 3:20 AMDear Manu prabhu,
Thanks for the info. Do you think it's possible for you to give me the contact infor from the cards of the two shops you visited in Mayapur. My friend may visit Mayapur, so she could visit these shops to start with...
A devotee godsister of mine is looking for deities of Lord Jagannath (larger than 6" tall, which is the size sold by krishna.com). That's another puzzle all by itself!
