Haribol,
I read the earlier treatment of this issue but it didn't cover marble deities and which paints(enamel or water based) to use just which ones to use on brass deities. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Paints to use on marble deities?
Tue, February 26, 2008 - 5:32 AMHari Bol Mataji,
I was just about to ask the very same question, I would also like to know which paints are suitable to use on marble deities. Also if there is anyone out there with some experience in painting marble deities can you please tell me what you would use to remove the old paint from the deities? I know that if you use commercial paint remover that it could etch the marble surface and dull the finish. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Tue, February 26, 2008 - 9:55 AMHari bol prabhus,
my friend who recently painted my deities, though they are brass, has painted marble deities in the past, and said enamel paints are best, as they stay for longer, waterbased paints will come off easily during bathing. Also best to use a non shiny finish paint, such as a satin / matt rather than a gloss.
as with removinga ny paint, eucalyptus oil is traditionall reccommended, applying it, and re-appling until the paint bubbles off and can be removed with a damp cloth, also, some kind of toothpick element to get into har to reach places, always helps!
your servant,
Krishan

Re: Paints to use on marble deities?
Sat, March 22, 2008 - 5:15 AMHare Krishna Prabhus, part of my services is to paint Deities, I personally use enamel paints and metallic paints when painting Brass and wooden Deities, with marble Deities painting is a little bit more complicated. I still use enamels but one must be careful with marble and stone as they are fragile material, they can stain as well. I have painted many Deities and very careful with Them. I suggest that if you wish to have Deities painted I personally think you should get someone thats a qualified artist and that has painted Deities before to do it for you. Also maybe have a look at their previous artwork to give you an idea of the quality of their painting.
