Haribol!
I just joined this group today and this is my first post! I was just wondering if anyone knew how to make a nice turban for my Deities. What I have been doing is making these fake turbans, which is just taking a strip of cloth and putting both ends over each other so that it sort of makes an x. Unfortunately these faux turbans do not hold ornaments very well. Can anyone help me? How do they do it in your temples or if anyone knows, how do they do it in Mayapur?

Re: Turbans?
Sat, March 24, 2007 - 10:40 AMuse a foam base. thats what most temples use, but in mayapur they dont use a base. they just use enough fabric so that the mukuts and ornaments hold well.
for small deities u can use a mini base, this will help and u can practice draping ur fabric over the base nicely.
we have different shaped turban bases for different styles of turbans. turbans are the best!

Sat, March 24, 2007 - 3:26 PMa foam base may not be practical for small deities i've found using a stiff fabric as a backing for the same design you mentioned works i have a couple of pics in my gallery i find the maroon turban can hold pieces quite well but haven't tried the blue one yet, i must admit i prefer crowns to turbans though. -

Sun, March 25, 2007 - 2:59 AMHari bol Praveen Prabhu,
PAMHO AGTSP.
I also find foam bases a little clumsy for small deities (The Lords I serve are onlt 6inches tall) so I like Yajiv prabhu use stiff fabrics - I find for my size deity, organza type fabrics go quite well, but what I do is usually start with a square and concertina it to make a strip and then do what you do - having more material makes it stronger, able to take mukut pieces, it also looks more opulent. I'll try to post pics later...
