Haribol!
I guess I should also post pictures of my deities, Sri-Sri Radha Madana-mohana, you can check it out in my album since I dont know how to post it in this actual post. Anyway, these are new dresses that I made and it was pretty simple, it only took a couple hours and I think they look really sweet. I make all their dresses and ornaments (except the crown). Its very very helpful now that I have a sewing machine.
Anyway, many devotees think I should start a Deity dressmaking business. Im not sure whether I should or not. I think its simple enough that anyone can do this wonderful service at home. Also, there are many dresses that you can get in India and they are so skillfully done! On the other hand, I pay a lot of attention to detail and it would be significantly cheaper for the buyer. Any thoughts?

Re: Business
Sun, March 25, 2007 - 5:58 PMI think there is a demand for outfits, especially good quality ones to bridge the gap between readymade and the high quality custom ones from India, especially as alot of people don't travel regularly to India, I personally resorted to making an outfit after being disappointed with the readymade selection but manu people wouldn't attempt it so you could have a good idea, around how much would you charge for an outfit like the one in the pics, and how large are the deities?
good luck in this new venture! -

Re: Business
Mon, March 26, 2007 - 12:12 PMThanks for your input and well wishing! I wasnt really sure if something like this would sell. Many devotees here in Orlando bought their Deity clothes somehow or the other from India and I felt like, if its so easy to get it in India then what is my use? Not to mention that there are a number of devotees who make Deity clothes (Alachua, New Vrindavan etc.) and they do a really good job, they just dont advertise. So I'll put up a couple ads on the internet and we'll see.
When I first got my Deities my husband bought a ready made outfit. It was too big and really really ugly. I considered buying some outfits on Krishna Culture or Krishna.com but for dresses that are so simple they are ridiculously expensive.
My Deities are 10 inches tall and for a dress like this I would probably charge $18. I feel like its a bit pricey but such fine black lace is one of the more expensive types of lace and the dress material is the prom dress kind so it has a nice shiny color to it. But the price can vary depending on size of the Deity, type and amount of material used etc. When it comes down to it- if I get $5, you'll get a $5 outfit, if I get $50, you'll get a $50 outfit so there's no cheating here- its up to how much the buyer wants to spend.
